Seven Scents, Seven Causes

Seven Scents, Seven Causes

SolScents® Sun Care line Supports 7 Causes Affecting Lives on a Global Scale.

MIAMI, Florida. (5 May, 2015) – SolScents®, the Next Generation Sun Care that smells good, feels good and does good, has established multiple donor affiliate agreements with selected non-for-profit institutions as part of its philanthropic mission to support seven relevant causes that affect many lives on a global scale. The company’s moto Follow your Sol englobes everything the Miami-based company stands for: giving back to the community.

“As entrepreneurs, we have in our hands a great opportunity, and responsibility, to help others in need, so we came up with a concept that supports seven different cause whenever a bottle of SolScents is sold.” said Maxim Weitzman, Managing Director of SolScents. SolScents contributes 2.5% of its global proceeds to: Hunger Awareness, Hope for Education, Environmental Protection, Bullying Awareness, No Animal Cruelty, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Heart Disease Prevention, with each scent and color supporting a particular cause:

  • Vanilla Silk (Orange): According to Feeding America, a critical component of a high quality of life is good health, which starts with healthy eating. When SolScents® Vanilla Silk sunscreen is purchased, a portion helps Feeding South Florida to put meals on the table for individuals in the community struggling with food insecurity.
  • Piña Colada (Yellow): SolScents® has partnered with The Alliance for Excellent Education, which seeks to promote high school transformation to make it possible for every child to graduate prepared for postsecondary learning and success in life. When the Piña Colada sunscreen is purchased, a portion helps this notion become a reality.
  • Cucumber-Melon (Green): SolScents® seeks to protect the skin from the harmful rays of sun, but also to protect the planet from harmful emissions. With proceeds from their Cucumber Melon sunscreens, SolScents® supports The Nature Conservancy to help conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.
  • Deep Love (Blue): One huge issue in society today that is often looked over is the problem of bullying in schools and in communities. SolScents® has partnered with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to increase awareness of how prevalent bullying and cyber bulling truly is. When customers buy one of the Deep Love sunscreens, a portion of the purchase helps the PACER’s Center in creating a safe environment for all children.

  • Angelica (Purple): SolScents® supports the Humane Society of Greater Miami where over 300 homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens each day are given a second chance by providing tender care for as long as it takes to find them a loving home. With the purchase of the Angelica sunscreens, a portion of the money goes toward these fighters of animal justice.

  • Flower Blast (Pink): One in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. At SolScents®, they have partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Through purchasing the Flower Blast sunscreens, a portion helps create awareness for early detection of the disease, as well as to help find research to find a cure.

  • Raspberry Dreams (Red): SolScents® has partnered with the American Heart Association to support live-saving efforts such as research, education, advocating for a better health, improving patient care, and reached population at risk. For every Raspberry Dreams sunscreen purchased, proceeds go to a cause that sits close to the hearts of those at SolScents® and many others “SolScents® was founded on Soul and Scents. When you buy SolScents®, you’re not just buying brighter sun care; you are contributing toward a sunnier future.” Said Daniel Bittner, Managing Director of SolScents. “Giving back is part of the company’s DNA”.

Today is Earth Day

Today is Earth Day and it is our time to lead!!  According to EarthDay.org climate change has already had devastating impacts around the world; ‘from Pacific Islands that are underwater, to increased tropical storms that pound the east coast of the United States’. According to the World Wildlife Fund worldwildlife.org, one of the leading conservation organizations, threats to the world’s forests are growing. Expanding agriculture, increased population, and shifts in diet, among other factors are responsible for most of the world’s deforestation. Those who understand climate change know that if humanity continues on its current trajectory, these impacts will only get more severe. No one person can prevent climate change, keep global temperatures from rising, or prevent degradation of the world’s forests. But if each of us live more sustainably lives, together we can make environmental history.

Every time you buy our green Cucumber Melon SolScents you help create awareness about conserving natural resources of our planet. This Earth day join our cause and protect the environment.

Creating a Daily Skin Regime

Taking care if your skin is essential to good health and great looks. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and has the very important function of protecting it by serving as a barrier. It also happens to be the very first thing people see when they meet you. Therefore taking care of your skin on a regular basis is essential and as important as taking care of other parts of your self. A daily skin care regime will help you get into the habit  of taking care of your skin and keeping it looking its best every day.

  1. Cleanse: You want to clean your skin every day to remove pollutants, dirt, sweat, and other build up that can clog your pores. Use gentle cleansing on your skin, especially on your face. Avoid harsh chemicals and choose a cleanser that works for your skin type. Your skin produces essential oils that help moisturize and protect it naturally. You should clean your skin one or two times every day depending on your skin type. If you have dry skin you may only need to cleanse once to avoid over drying your pores.

  2. Exfoliate: Exfoliation involves the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the outermost surface of the skin. It has been used for many years to help maintain a daily skin. To exfoliate use a gentle scrub once or twice per week. You can use a simple sponge, a microfiber cloth, or an over the counter facial scrub. It will help reduce acne scars, sun damage, fine lines, and skin discoloration or imperfections. If you have dry skin avoid scrubs that contain pumice or crushed volcanic rock as it can be overly abrasive. Pumice is good to exfoliate the skin of your feet.

  3. Moisturize: Moisturizers are chemicals used to make the external layers of your skin softer. They increase the water content of your skin or hydration. You can use over the counter products that contain natural oils, humectants, or emollients Use additional moisturizer if you have dry skin or during the winter. For dry skin heavier oil-based moisturizers that contain grape seed oil and antioxidants are preferable. For oily skin water based moisturizers are more suitable. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water too as this will also insure that your skin gets moisturized.

  4. Protect: Sun exposure can increase your risk of skin cancer, add wrinkles and sun spots, as well as other signs of aging. Sunscreens or sunblocks can help absorb or reflect some of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation to help protect your skin. Use sunscreen daily in the form of lotion, spray or gel to protect your skin from sun exposure. And don’t be fooled by the weather. Cloudy or snowy days can be just as dangerous for your skin in terms of sun exposure as bright summer days.

Just follow these simple steps on a weekly basis and keep your skin looking healthy and fresh!!

4 Skin Care and Safety Tips While Traveling

Most of us remember to take care of our skin at home but when on the go, such as when traveling, it can be more difficult to practice proper skin care and safety techniques. You don’t have all of your typical grooming and hygiene items with you, you may be in a different environment and there could be climate you are not used to.

You can keep your skin looking young and healthy when you protect it. Sun damage affects your skin’s firmness. It also gives you more freckles and wrinkles, and fine lines. In fact, nearly all visible changes to the skin come from sun exposure. So this is why it is very important to practice great skin care habits, even when you’re traveling.

Here are some tips:

  1. Choose the right sunscreen. Be sure it's SPF is high enough. Remember to reapply it.
  2. Cover up with clothing. Hats and shawls also help protect you from the sun.
  3. Remember that you can also get burned in shady or cooler weather, not only in the hot temperatures.
  4. Drink plenty of water. Some people find this easier at home than while traveling. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere.

We know now more than we did in previous generations that sun exposure can have harmful consequences. Now we know the importance of protecting our skin from these harmful rays and of taking care of our skin for a lifetime of healthy, radiant glow.

While traveling away from home for short or extended periods of time can make it more difficult, you can learn to practice proper skin care and safety even while on the go. Let this be your guide to creating your own traveling skin care routine. Your skin will thank you!

The Effects of Sun on Our Skin

We all love to have beautiful, healthy skin, and most of us love the look of tanned and glowing skin. Unfortunately, the sun can cause long term damage to our skin at the same time it gives us a short term beauty boost. The two main negative effects of sun exposure are aging and increased risk for skin cancer.

Exposure to sun accelerates many of the processes we associate with aging. Over time, ultraviolet light from the sun damages the elastin in our skin. This damage reduces our skin’s firmness and causes it to sag. It can also lead to increased wrinkles, fine lines, and freckles. According to skincancer.org, over 90% of visible changes in skin are caused by exposure to the sun. The best way to keep skin looking young and healthy is to protect it from the sun.

Even more seriously, sun exposure significantly increases the risk for skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common kind of cancer in the United States, and ultraviolet radiation coming from the sun or tanning beds is its number one cause. In fact, research has shown that approximately 86% of melanoma (the most dangerous kind of skin cancer) is caused by exposure to UV radiation. Some kinds of skin cancer can be treated fairly easily, with surgery to remove cancerous skin and tumors. Melanoma, however, is very dangerous, requires thorough treatment, and can lead to death.

The most effective way to prevent damage from sun exposure, apart from never leaving your house, is regularly applying sunscreen. Sunscreen blocks UV rays from reaching the skin and protects your skin from the negative effects of sun exposure. On average, people who apply sunscreen daily show 24% less aging in their skin than those who do not apply sunscreen (source). You should choose a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, and higher if you have fairer skin. Sunscreen should be applied every day, in both hot and cold weather. If you are outside a lot, it is best to reapply sunscreen every 3 hours to keep your skin protected. If you wear sunscreen every day, you can protect your skin from premature aging and greatly reduce your risk of skin cancer.

October is Bullying Awareness Month

October is bullying prevention awareness month, an important time to raise recognition of bullying and its problems. Bullying consists of unwanted aggressive behavior and/or the enforcement of a power imbalance against a youth. It can include physical harm, taunts, spreading rumors, threats, and isolation (http://www.stopbullying.gov). It can happen both in person and from far away, and in today’s world of social media, cyberbullying has made it particularly hard for targets to escape from bullies.

Adults sometimes dismiss bullying as a minor phase of adolescence that youths simply need to go through. In contrast to this attitude, many children, teenagers, and young adults suffer acutely from bullying, and it has been linked to suicide in many cases. Therefore, it is very important to encourage children, parents, and school officials to take bullying seriously. Teaching children methods to stand up to bullies and support one another has proven to be effective strategies. Schools and parents can also play a role in teaching children how to cope with their feelings in productive ways so that they are less likely to become bullies.

At SolScents, we are dedicated to helping important causes and we recognize that bullying is a major problem affecting many young people in our country and around the world. Our seven lines of SolScent sunscreen each help a different cause, and bullying awareness is one of them. For each SolScents Deep Love sunscreen product that you buy, we donate a percent of the profits to help this cause.

By raising awareness about the negative consequences of bullying and strategies to manage this problem we can help create school environments that allow students to feel safe and accepted. Help SolScents engage members of the community and support our children. Together, we can help our children grow up safe and happy! For more information about bullying and what you can do, visit http://www.stopbullying.gov.
